Hidden Elegance: Crafting the essence of Kakure
We had the privilege of leading the art direction, visual direction, illustration, and packaging design for Kakure, a distinguished Japanese restaurant in Japan. The essence of this project was deeply rooted in the cultural significance and traditions of Japan, reflecting the refined and exclusive nature of the dining experience that Kakure offers.
The name "Kakure" translates to "hidden" in Japanese, embodying the restaurant's concept of an intimate, secluded space where guests can discover the depths of authentic Japanese cuisine in a serene and luxurious setting. This idea of something hidden or concealed informed our entire creative approach, leading to a design that evokes a sense of mystery and exclusivity.
Central to the visual identity of Kakure is the 'Komon', a traditional Japanese pattern used in the logo and branding elements. The Komon holds deep cultural significance, often representing family crests or symbols of identity in Japan. For Kakure, we crafted a bespoke Komon pattern that subtly intertwines elements representing the restaurant's values—elegance, precision, and tradition—while also creating a visual experience that feels both timeless and modern.
Our work on Kakure aimed to merge the rich history of Japanese design with contemporary aesthetics, delivering a brand experience that resonates with both the heritage of the cuisine and the sophistication of the dining experience.
In crafting the branding for Kakure, an exclusive Japanese restaurant, we drew inspiration from the rich cultural heritage and the subtle elegance that defines Japanese aesthetics. For the logo icon design, we incorporated a Komon (小紋) with a delicate floral motif, symbolizing both sophistication and a deep connection to nature.
The use of the Komon is not merely an aesthetic choice but a statement of respect for Japanese tradition and culture. These small, repetitive floral patterns, though discreet, carry profound meaning, evoking a sense of refined beauty and serenity. This approach perfectly aligns with the dining experience at Kakure, where exclusivity meets authenticity. By integrating the Komon into the logo design, we have created a visual identity that is both contemporary and timeless, embodying the essence of Kakure: a place where tradition and modernity coexist in perfect harmony, offering a hidden sanctuary of culinary excellence.
