Music is an essential pillar of our society. It is a cultural reference, the melody of life, the soundtrack to moments lived.
And as Beethoven said, “Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy.”
For all of us at Neon Studio, music has played a huge part in our lives. It has accompanied us from childhood to adulthood; hazy memories framed by songs and songs framed by hazy memories.
That’s why we couldn’t be happier to present to you our new project: Soundtracks
Each month we’ll invite a guest to share with us a selection of ten tracks and explain how these
songs have influenced their lives. Our guests will hail from different countries and sectors and
have varying music tastes. Nothing is off limits; our aim is to connect with a fascinating person in each monthly Chapter and explore their personality through the medium of music.
To kick off Soundtracks, we’re excited to share with you our very own playlist. As our team was all born in the 80s - the golden era of music - we have chosen this as our focus, as it’s a decade steeped in much nostalgia.
Many of us still remember iconic songs that defined our childhood; be it listening to our parents’ records or hearing popular songs played time and time again on the radio. While we grew up, so did music, and there are generations that to this day remember songs from their youth.
Listening to music of former times often strikes a chord, evoking sentimental feelings and joy that remind us of important parts of our personal history. This is especially true of music from the 80s, an era that wouldn’t have been what it is
today without the artists and movements that shaped it.
In essence, the 80s represent a unique decade of timeless golden oldies that continue to leave their legacy on our society and the music industry at large.
For our Chapter, we have homed in on funk music. Rooted in soul, jazz and rhythm and blues, funk is a genre that has given rise to disco, hip hop, acrobat, post-disco, electro-boogie, new wave, contemporary R&B, post-punk, neo soul, French house, new jack swing, dance pop and house.
